Welcome to a Reformed Church: A Guide for Pilgrims [Kindle Edition] Free for a limited time – Daniel R. Hyde

NOTE: This book is no longer free online but you can still purchase and read it for you benefit.

Every once I awhile I find out about free ebooks online. This one I found from Ligonier Ministries which is R.C Sproul’s ministries. I haven’t read the book yet but I think it is a good concept.  Below is a short descripton of the book and a link to download it for free, enjoy!

Description:

Who are these guys? That was the question the teenage Daniel R. Hyde posed to his father when he first encountered Reformed believers. With their unique beliefs and practices, these Christians didn t fit any of the categories in his mind.

Not so many years later, Hyde is now Rev. Daniel R. Hyde, a pastor of a Reformed church. Recognizing that many are on the outside looking in, just as he once was, he wrote Welcome to a Reformed Church: A Guide for Pilgrims to explain what Reformed churches believe and why they structure their life and worship as they do.  In layman’s terms, Rev. Hyde sketches the historical roots of the Reformed churches, their scriptural and confessional basis, their key beliefs, and the ways in which those beliefs are put into practice. The result is a roadmap for those encountering the Reformed world for the first time and a primer for those who want to know more about their Reformed heritage.

Regaining my balance I now held a scrap of paper and a book in my hand as he walked off without looking back. I read the paper; “This is not a drill! You have one life to live. Don’t waste it, live it well. Read the book.” The book was,

The below quote is from John Piper’s ’50 Reasons why Jesus came to die’  book you can download the full book here for free!

In our happiest times we do not want to die. The wish for death rises only when our suffering seems unbearable. What we really want in those times is not death, but relief. We would love for the good times to come again. We would like the pain to go away…We want life and happiness…We are kidding ourselves when we romanticize death…The longing of the human heart is to live and to be happy. God made us that way. “He has put eternity into man’s heart” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)…eternal life is not merely the extension of this life with its mix of pain and pleasure. As hell is the worst outcome of this life, so “eternal life” is the best. It is supreme and ever-increasing happiness where all sin and all sadness will be gone. All that is evil and harmful in this fallen creation will be removed…It is true every moment of life, now and always: For those who trust Christ the best is yet to come.
